The spirits

The Faceless

The Petrification of Dreams

Nothing triggers fear of the unknown faster than that which we cannot see - our minds do a marvelous job of running ahead of us in the apparent darkness, creating all sorts of scary diversions and reasons for not moving forward.
— Dennis Merritt Jones

The Awakening

I cannot express it: but surely you and everybody have a notion that there is, or should be, an existence of yours beyond you.
— Emily Bronte

The Whispers of Old Souls

He kneeled there, shaking as he became aware of his surroundings... the cavern. The deep cavern in which he fell was the one that held the lost souls of a forgotten time. He inhaled slowly, feeling the silence around him thicken. He knew they were watching. They were waiting for his invitation. Finally, they thought, a soul to tell our tale. Many centuries forgotten, many frightened people came and passed them by... but this one was different. He stayed. The wind itself held its breath, only exhaling when he lifted his hand as if to say... teach me.

The Visitation

I will no longer claim to know
Where we go when it’s time to go
But when you go, will I go too?
When you go, I am going too
— Torres, The Exchange

Shaking,  softly whispering, holding, wishing to never have to let go again. Her arms clung tightly to him, knowing he would not be here long, or ever again.

A wish come true-- a visit from the sky...

— Robert Collier

The Surrender

Nothing can now ease
the painful death of my friends
Nothing can now prevent
Norns runes and my cry in distress.
— Forndom (From the Flykt song)

The Memory

The memory of everything is very soon overwhelmed in time.
— Marcus Aurelius

To step back and focus within. To stop the idle chatter. To take time to calm my soul.

And ask what I wanted to show the world.

I have been running away from my emotions; the heartbreak of declining health, the loss of loved ones and the overwhelming feeling of being utterly silenced to the rest of the world.

The acceptance of the silence. To find my way through my darkened path. To discover my journey and push ever forward-- trusting my instincts and revealing what is hidden in the dark.

The Revelation in the Shadows

We dance round in a ring and suppose, but the secret sits in the middle and knows.

blood to bone, bone to marrow,
marrow to ashes, ashes to snow.

The Forest Spirit

San, The Princess Mononoke: Even if all the trees grow back, it won’t be his forest anymore. The Forest Spirit is dead.

Princess Mononoke (movie)

The Last Goodbye

I believe I can fly
I believe I can touch the sky
I think about it every night and day
Spread my wings and fly away
I believe I can soar
I see me running through that open door
I believe I can fly...
— Robert S. Kelly

Once upon a time, there stood a little shed in a large backyard. The wood all silver as it watched, throughout all the seasons, two little children play, grow and become who they are today. It deteriorated with each year as the children grew stronger and wiser. It stood proud when it was the first house on the street but now, it was only a place to store the other neglected parts of life but that was only until the roof collapsed...

So shall we come to look at the world with new eyes.
— Ralph Waldo Emerson

The Mother

Beginnings and endings. Life and death. Earth is the essence of grounding, stability and also of nature and balance. The colour is green, the time is midnight and the direction is North. It is represented by plants, trees, dirt, sand, gnomes and goblins. There is Taurus, Virgo and Capricorn and there is of course, Mother Nature. The meaning of Earth is "to know" or "to keep silent". The sense is touch.

But what does Earth mean to me? It means the fallen tree in my orchard, the new growth of flowers below the decaying limbs. It means the place where I saved an orphaned baby bunny from the elements and comforted a crow's last breath.  The trees and mossy ground comforted me in my darkest times. It inspired my dreams and kept me company on many quiet days. Earth was an element that I fully embraced as a child and still do to this day. Earth is a comforting mother that just listens to you and allows your thoughts to guide themselves.

The Connection

When life is about to begin and a connection is formed between the soul and the Earth. The seedling that she nurtured for so long, is growing into budding promise. The roots are forming and the child is awakening to discover the world around but also, the world within. Discovering who she truly is and what she is going to become.

Last Whispers

Whisper quietly, whisper truthfully. Whisper the last thing you wish them to hear.
